Across the Universe

By: Beth Revis
Series: I think it is, but I'm not sure.
Source: Bought
Pages: 398 pages, Hardcover
Publishing info: Published January 11th 2011 by Razorbill
Synopsis (via Goodreads):

Seventeen-year-old Amy joins her parents as frozen cargo aboard the vast spaceship Godspeed and expects to awaken on a new planet, three hundred years in the future. Never could she have known that her frozen slumber would come to an end fifty years too soon and that she would be thrust into the brave new world of a spaceship that lives by its own rules.
Amy quickly realizes that her awakening was no mere computer malfunction. Someone-one of the few thousand inhabitants of the spaceship-tried to kill her. And if Amy doesn't do something soon, her parents will be next.
Now Amy must race to unlock Godspeed's hidden secrets. But out of her list of murder suspects, there's only one who matters: Elder, the future leader of the ship and the love she could never have seen coming.

So, before I start, I should probably warn you that this will be more of a raving rant then a review.
You have been warned.

Before I read this book, when I first ordered it, I wasn't really sure exactly what Across the Universe was about. It was almost as if I bought it based on the oh-so-many amazing reviews.

One of the first things I noticed while reading this book was that while Elder and Amy had similar personalities, they were both extremely unique. I only got mixed up once or twice, not much at all for a book told from alternating perspectives.

I was up 'till two in the morning reading this book. It captivated me. I felt the claustrophobia that the characters felt. I could feel the anger radiating off the pages. Revis' writing was amazing, and the was almost a feeling of magic in the form of evil about it.

Plus, conspiracies and lies. My favorites.

*spoilers below, highlight to read*
This book touched me in a way that not many have. Harley's story is one that is just flat out beautiful. He loved Kayleigh so much that he destroyed himself. I cried twice, not something that happens often.
*spoilers over*

This book is one that will stick with me for a long, long time.
