A Few Books I Didn't Finish and Why

This list consists of books I really, really wanted to love, even to the point of still giving them shots every now and then, but I just couldn't finish them.

Elixir
By: Hilary Duff
Why I read it: I wanted to read this because of all the positive hype it got.
Why I stopped reading it: I felt like I was reading Twilight all over again. It began by sucking me in, even though I knew that it was a cheesy, 100% unrealistic novel. Just like Twilight. And I would have finished it if it had kept me as hooked. But I got nearly 100 pages in, and the main love interest hadn't even been introduced, just mentioned. And that it was going to slow to allow a real relationship to develop between the characters later on.

Steel
By: Carrie Vaughn
Why I read it and Why I stopped: I had been waiting for this book to be released since at least December. I mean, strong, presumably smart girls who can fight, plus pirates! How can you not be excited for this! But, when I began to read it, I was super let down. Jill was whiny and lazy, almost bratty. I'm sorry, that sounds really harsh. I just can't take it anymore..

Crazy Beautiful
By: Lauren Baratz-Logstead
Why I read it: I love reading fairy-tale retellings, especially of Beauty and the Beast
Why I stopped: So, I read this as an ARC, so who knows. Who knows, maybe they edited it really well after the ARC's came out. I don't know. But at least what I had I didn't like.
I actually read this a few months ago, so I can't really remember it all that well. I just remember feeling like the characters were both boring and two-dimensional, and they were both cranky, bothersome characters. But them again, the final novel may be better

Nightshade
By: Andrea Cremer
Why I read it: All the amazing hype, and I was really into paranormal's right then
Why I stopped:  This one might be a surprise for  most everyone reading this, and I'm going to try to keep from spoiling a key part of the book. But there was one thing that happened that I just COULD NOT TAKE! It aggravated me so much. I felt cheated. Anyways. I think I might try to pick this one up once more before officially giving it up.

  2. Aw. It's always a shame when a book lets you down. But I appreciate your discussing these titles honestly!

  3. I actually really enjoyed Elixir and loved Nightshade, but I can see why someone would stop reading Elixir. Definitely give Nightshade another chance. :-)
